Give the Gift of Family Time!

It’s time to celebrate you, Mom—but after breakfast in bed and that pedicure you’ve been waiting for, don’t you find yourself craving family time again?  The National Center for Families Learning  created the Family Time Machine, a site that’s chock full of activities and ideas for fun family time infused with learning moments, such as Bath Time Bubble Barge, TV Time Machine and Color me Hungry.

TV Time Machine:
TV shows are sometimes very similar to real life in the way the characters dress and behave. Try using the TV as a family time machine! As a family, watch a show that the children think really shows what their life is like in today’s world. Then go back in time with a TV show that parents think is close to their experience growing up. Discuss how the situations in life and the shows have changed over the years. How are the experiences similar? How are they different?
Talking about TV shows in this way can help family members understand the experiences of others and build a stronger family bond. This also is a great way to practice comparing and contrasting information with details to support what you say.

Bath Time Bubble Barge: Bring some small waterproof toys to bath time and make a pretend car wash together! What would your family name their car wash if they had one? How many different types of vehicles can you list that might come to your car wash? What jobs would each person have at your family car wash?
When you use your imaginations to create a plan for your car wash, you will practice problem solving and explaining your decisions with reasons.

If you are what you eat, how colorful are you? The next time you have a meal together, look around to see whose plate is the most colorful. Take a photo of your plate to capture your dinner rainbow. Which colors do you eat the most often and least often? Which foods change color when you cook them? Is there a color we rarely find in food?
What a great way to practice comparing foods that belong in different categories!  You also will practice explaining why some color categories are more popular than others.

One reader is going to WIN a Family Time Kit just like the one pictured above to help with family fun nights!
Enter using the rafflecopter form below..good luck! Giveaway ends June 15th 2014.

Barnies Coffee Single Serve Now Available at Publix!

I am so in love with Barnie's Coffee. If you haven't ever tried "Barnie's White Christmas" you MUST. Even if it isn't the Holidays, this coffee is SO good!

Introduced as a holiday coffee in 1995, it soon became a year-round best seller. Flavored with coconut, nuts, sweet caramel and vanilla, it remains unforgettable. Compatible with Keurig® original K-Cup® coffeemakers. Keurig® and K-Cup® are registered trademarks of Keurig, INC. Neither Single Cup Coffee, Ltd. nor Barnie's CoffeeKitchen® are affiliated in any way with Keurig, Inc.

Now, you can purchase Barnie's Coffee in either single serve boxes, or bags of ground coffee. I recently had the chance to sample a couple of the flavors in the single serve (I love my Keurig!).

My favorite is the Cafe Au Chocolat. It's like a smooth mocha when I combine it with some fresh cream and sugar. Perfect for mornings getting ready to start my day of home schooling.

Barnie's Coffee & Tea was founded in 1980 and renamed as Barnie's CoffeeKitchen in 2011, bringing its rich coffee heritage to the market in a fresh, innovative way – treating coffee as food. The company offers more than 40 hand-selected coffees, many of which are single origin, organic, Fair Trade Certified™ or Rainforest Alliance Certified™. Under the leadership of CEO Jonathan Smiga, Barnie's CoffeeKitchen now operates in two functional areas: retail cafés, with four locations, and a consumer products division. Its retail business creates an elegant – yet accessible – café experience, inviting guests to elevate their expectations surrounding food and coffee. The consumer products business offers individuals and wholesale customers a category-wide assortment of products, including packaged coffee, single-serve brew cups and a host of other items. Woolite(R) Introduces Fiber-Flex™ Technology in New and Improved Everyday Formula

The new Everyday formula uses unique fiber-flex™ technology to retain the elasticity and shape of clothes to keep them feeling new even after 20 washes. A fashionista who loves their clothes knows that clothes need a little extra TLC to protect their color and fit in addition to cleaning them. Many may still think Woolite® is just for delicates and hand-washing but the new formula is actually designed to care for your clothes directly in the washing machine.

Coffee Joules Review

Xander and I love to watch the TV show "Shark Tank"...you know, the show where people pitch their inventions to 5 millionaires to get them to invest in their product.

A few weeks ago, we were watching Shark Tank on Hulu, and I was SO intrigued when I saw the founders of Coffee Joulies present their product. Basically, Coffee Joulies are added to your cup of coffee to make it drinkable (cool it down) quickly without losing the potency of the coffee itself.

This works thanks to a special material sealed inside the polished stainless steel shell called a "phase change material" that is able to absorb a large amount of energy as it melts at a specific temperature. We use a PCM that melts at 140 degrees Fahrenheit, which we have found to be the perfect temperature for drinking any hot beverage including coffee, tea and hot chocolate. This material is food-based and completely nontoxic. Each Coffee Joulie works with 4 ounces of hot beverage, so toss one in your espresso, two in your double-short vanilla latte, three in your tall drip, four in your vacuum thermos and five in your venti or xl coffee right when it's poured.

Since both my husband and I are coffee drinkers, and my husband is always asking for an ice cube in his coffee, then complaining that it tastes "watered down". When trying the coffee with the Joilues the coffee cooled down within a couple of minutes, and in the travel mug stayed warm until it was finished!

The material sealed inside the Joulie will begin to melt, absorbing energy from your coffee and cooling it down to the right temperature, 140 degrees Fahrenheit, three times faster. When your coffee reaches this temperature the process reverses. The phase change material begins solidifying, releasing the energy it stored earlier back into your coffee, keeping it hot twice as long. When used in a high-quality vacuum thermos, Coffee Joulies can keep your coffee in the right temperature range for over five hours.

Right now, you can purchase a 5 pack of Coffee Joulies here for $47.99 and they come with a travel mug so you are ready to go!

Sweet Creations Bake a Bowl from Good Cook! #Giveaway ends May 19th!

I love to bake and I don't mind cooking. I like to express myself and try new things, which I was really able to try something new with Good Cooks Sweet Creations Bake a Bowl Pan!

I wanted to do something different than the normal brownie bowl or something sweet, so I went with egg! Yup egg. I did 2 eggs in each cup. I also tried corn bread which when using the Bake a Bowl Pan from Good Cook you want to fill no higher than the line which is in the bottom pan.

When you go to use the pan make sure you spray it with a non stick cooking spray makes for a easy clean up afterwards. I mixed up 12 raw eggs into a cup making them a scrambled mixed. I poured my mix into each cup had the oven set at 350 and placed eggs in for 15 mins.

My egg bowls came out great they kinda were like a boiled egg, my kids loved the idea of a bowl egg, I filled the eggs with sausage, cheese, grits, and sided with bacon. It turned out to be a well rounded meal, my kids really enjoyed it and I enjoyed it. I can't wait to try the Bake a Bowl Pan from Good Cook on sweets even though I wanted to try something different could you imagine how great a brownie bowl with ice cream would taste???
