Dutch Country Pantry Foods Review

Fresh from Lancaster County, PA you can now purchase home made REAL Dutch Country Pantry Foods.

Having never heard of most of the items on the website, I was semi-excited to try them. I didn't have any idea what to expect.

I ordered the Shoofly Pie, the Birch Beer, and the Cope's Dried Sweet Corn.

First, we tried the Birch Beer, since it was an easy taste right out of the box. I expected it to be an alcoholic drink and was actually really surprised and happy that it was a home made root beer. It was the most delicious drink I have had in a long time, after the first taste, I knew I wanted to savor it, so I put it in the refrigerator and let it get cold so I could enjoy it more later.

Second, my husband and I decided to try the Wet Bottom Shoofly Pie.

I still have NO idea what kind of pie this is, the main ingredient is molasses, so I guess it's a molasses pie. We really enjoyed the crust and my husband compared the pie to a fig newton cookie. The next day we tried it hot and with ice cream and it was better, I think it's just an aquirred taste.

Finally, the Dried Sweet Corn. I haven't made this yet, and will post again when I do. Honestly the directions seem complicated, I have to use a food processor to grind the corn and it takes like 5 or 6 cups of milk, which we never have on hand since we only buy pints at a time (not big milk drinkers).

All in all, I would recommend this site if you like Dutch foods and are wanting some real home made stuff, or if you love to experiment with new things!
