Cool Gear Bottle Review

When Xander was little back in 2007-2008, I remember seeing all those "cool moms" who had their kids drinking water out of a bottle that had it's own filter, and I felt like a failure when my son was drinking his apple juice from a sippy cup.

Was he drinking too much juice? Am I giving him too much sugar? Does he get enough water?

All things that made *me* at that time feel like a bad mom, but I remember thinking I can't afford those water filter bottles, but how nice it would be to be able to stop at a drinking fountain and have pure clean water any time for him.

Then, a couple of weeks ago, I came across the site Cool Gear Inc. and noticed they had all kids of cool--haha--no pun intended, stuff for kids and parents.

This was the first thing that caught my eye.

32oz bottle

WOW! Not only could I be the *cool mom* but I could also keep the water cold while keeping it pure and clean.

When the bottle came in the mail both Xander and Riley (and myself) couldn't wait to get the "stick" part into the freezer so we could start enjoying some cold water.

After about 2 hours in the freezer, we pulled it out and stuck it back in the bottle and filled the bottle with tap water.

Riley had the first drink and squealed "it's cold!" then Xander tried and his reaction was "it tastes like it comes out of those bottles you get at the gas station!"

When I tried it, they were both spot on. It was cold, and it tasted great.

The best part is the price. $12.99!

I can actually afford to buy one for everyone in the family!

The 32 oz EZ Freeze Pure also comes in smaller (24 oz) and larger (64 oz) sizes.

You can also purchase replacement filters for the EZ freeze on their website.

Xander wanted me to tell everyone he thinks this bottle is the coolest
Cool Zooey Flip tops 12.5oz bottles
and Riley likes this

Cereal on the Go
It keeps milk cold by using a gel filled freezer container at the bottom, and it has a snap in/off spoon!

Another product that I am hoping to review someday is this
Stayfit Deluxe Salad Kit
Casey and I are both starting a weight loss plan in 2013 and I think this would make taking salads with me when I go out SO much easier, and at only $11.99 it's definitely in my price range!

Disclosure: I was given an Ez Freeze Pure Water bottle to help with my review. All opinions are 100% mine.

RW Garcia Chips Review and Giveaway

I have been in so many natural food stores, due to my mothers gluten free diet, and my own love of natural medicines.

One section we always seemed to overlook was the chip section. I guess because there are so many options for gluten free chips. Potato..Corn..almost all chips are based with these ingredients.

Then, one day I noticed something by the checkout that caught my eye.

RW Garcia Curry & Mango Dippers.

Curry? Mango? 2 of my all time favorite things, together in one yummy chip?

I had to try!

I decided to pair them with some hummus I made in my new food processor.

It. Was. AWESOME.

The mango and curry flavors were spot on, and with the hummus it was a great healthy snack.

RW Garcia products are all GMO free, which is really important to me and my family.

I also had the chance to try the blue and red corn tortilla chips, we dipped them in salsa and they were terrific, I love how they were nice and thick, and had a great bite to them.
My kids loved the blue and red corn they thought that was neat.

RW Garcia also has varieties of Flax Seed Chips and Crackers. Flax seed can help fight so many illnesses including diabetes, heart disease and cancer! This is a really tasty way to get a great health benefit.

The one kind I didn't get to try yet, but would love to, and I would love to get my kids to try them, are the Veggie Chips

The chips have all 3 flavors in the bag.
Spinach and Garlic
Red Beet & Onion and Carrot
Tomato and Sesame

What a great way to get the kids to eat good for you veggies in a great tasting chip!

Big Time Rush Wall Decal Fathead Review and Giveaway

I have talked about Riley's obsession with Big Time Rush before.

For Christmas, he wanted a "wireless microphone", guitar, karaoke machine, and electronic drums.

All so he can sing and play music to Big Time Rush.

Riley is 6, and I am really happy that he loves music.

When I got the chance to review a wall decal from Fathead I already knew what I was going to pick.

Big Time Rush - Big Time Rush - Nickelodeon

Have you seen the commercial of the little boy in tears over his new Fathead Wall Graphic?

It's not really a commercial, since it's a real video uploaded to YouTube by a mom getting her sons reaction to his new monster truck decal. You get the idea that these decals are AMAZING. and they are.

The graphic came on a huge sheet, and was really easy to instal. I have had some other decals in the past that you had to tape down and peel and stick and it was a while process..this was just peel it off and stick it on.

I attempted to get a video of us installing it, but we ended up needing our camera man to hold onto the decal with us because it was SO big.

One thing I didn't know, was that the decal wasn't just the picture shown. On the same sheet were several other smaller Big Time Rush decals.

This is how we placed them.

I think they all came out great and as you can tell Riley is beyond happy. He waves goodnight to Kendall, Logan, Carlos and James every night.

FatHead.com offers wall graphics for all ages! Many characters from your favorite TV shows, like these..

Rainbow Dash

And really cool ones for boys too!

Naruto

Darth Vader

One of my readers is going to win their very own Fathead decal!

RodWorks Shelf and Picture Frames Review

I am really bad at decorating.
Some people are good at it, my mom is great, I just have no clue when it comes to style or color matching (being color blond doesn't help)

So when I find shops online that make it easy to decorate, I know I have to take a look.

RodWorks is one of those sites.
I happened to stumble on it by "googling" "metal wall shelf"
because someone suggested I use one for the kids stockings since living in Florida fireplaces are scarce.

This is the one I chose.

FW1095-IMG2

And this is what I did with it.

I think it came out great! I plan to change the theme every season/holiday and make it my "mantle" shelf.

Ordering from RodWorks was really easy, and I love that they have so many great things for the home, like this sign for only $12.95!

or this cute Peacock dish towel!

I also got the chance to review these really cool Funky Frames, I love how the wood is distressed, I don't have anything passed down to me from my family, I mean NOTHING, so at least with these frames it makes it look like I do!

I really recommend visiting Rodworks.com, they have great prices and great things for the home.

Emerson Creek Pottery Review and Giveaway

When I was young, my grandma made stoneware in her basement. She sold it to consignment stores and people who had custom orders. She was really talented.

I remember painting things in her garage that she would then "fire" in her kiln, and always wishing mine looked more like hers.

She is much older now, and doesn't make anything anymore, and I really miss all of our home made pieces we had (my mom still has some, but since I don't live with her I don't see it much)

That's one reason why I was excited about Emerson Creek Pottery
It reminds me of my grandma and things she would have made.

I chose to revieCeramic Honey Pot with Honey Gift Setw this adorable Honey Pot.

My grandma and I used to make tea and drink it in her kitchen while talking about all my "teenage" problems, so it reminds me of her in more than one way.

The Honey Pot is beautiful, it's about 4 inches tall and comes with the lid and the honey stick.

All Emerson Creek Pottery products are 100% lead free and hand painted in the USA.

This is another one of my favorite items and I am going to buy it for my grandma for her birthday this year.

Personalized Ceramic Teacups

I thought it was a really nice touch that they can personalize the cups.

This is another one of my favorites.

Shortbread Pans from Brown Bag and Emerson Creek PotteryI have always wanted to make shortbread, and with this I won't have any excuse not to!

One of my readers is going to win a Honey Pot just like the one I received.

3 Ingredient Shortbread Recipe (traditional Scottish)

Thank you Emerson Creek Pottery for the recipe.

Traditional Scottish Shortbread Recipe
Authentic Scottish Shortbread is made of just 3 ingredients: butter, sugar and flour. It gets its name Shortbread because shortening is the crucial factor in this rich, buttery cookie. Over the years, creative bakers have dreamed up recipes for all kinds of new takes on traditional shortbread - chocolate, with nuts, with fancy flavorings like rosewater or lavender blossoms, with chocolate chips or savory anise seeds. You can't really go wrong with adding special touches to the basic recipe, but first it's important to make sure you've got that basic recipe down! Follow these steps for making perfect, authentic Scottish shortbread cookies:
Ingredients:
1 cup all purpose flour
1/2 cup room temperature butter
1/3 cup powdered sugar
Cream the butter in a bowl, using the back of a large spoon or frosting knife. When it is soft, creamy and light, it is properly creamed. Dust the powdered sugar into the bowl as you continue to make the creaming motion with your utensil. Once it is gently worked in, add the flour, mixing in with a few good whisks of your utensil. It is also fine to mix the dough in a mixer. Turn the mixture out onto a bread board and knead it gently with your hands until the 3 ingredients become a uniform, soft texture. Form into a ball.
Spray your mold lightly with a non-stick vegetable oil spray and set the ball of shortbread dough in the middle of it. Working from the center of the dough outward, press the shortbread out so that it completely and evenly fills the shortbread mould. Prick the surface of the cookie dough all over with a fork. Don't skip the pricking step as it is key to the texture of the finished shortbread.
Place the shortbread pan in an oven set to 325 degrees for 30-35 minutes or until lightly browned on top. Remember that few ovens are alike, so checking for the toasty brown color on top is your surest method of knowing that to your shortbread is done. Remove from oven and let cool for 10 minutes.
Finally, turn your shortbread pan upside down over a cutting board, holding it about 2 inches above the surface. Then, let it drop! This will jar the cookies out of the mold. Lift up the pan and slice up the shortbread with a thin, sharp knife while the cookies are still warm Serve the cookies design-side-up!
Scotch Shortbread cookies can be enjoyed warm or cold. They will keep well well in a lidded tin for at least a week, but we'll be surprised if they last that long!

Why do I Home School? Easy Read System Review

I want to share one of the reasons why I chose to home school both of my children.

When Xander was 3 I had him enrolled in a Pre-Pre-k Program for 3-4 year olds and he LOVED it, his teacher was awesome (Thank you Mrs Joanne!) and she was kind, and patient, fun and loving, and made Xander feel special every day. I SAW this for myself, as well as Xander told me how much he liked her.

It was hard to say goodbye to Mrs Joanne. But, it was time to move on.
When Xander was 4 he went to Pre-K with his best friend Michael (Casey's son, and Xander's cousin). In Pre-K Xander did great. He learned a little, but mostly it was to learn how to get along with other kids and follow directions.

His teacher (Miss Sarah) was terrific. He came home every day happy and enthusiastic about school.

Then came Kindergarten.

This is where is all went bad.

In Florida, we have A B and C schools (I don't know if they go to D or F but I know fore sure about the first 3)

Xander was enrolled in an A school because that's where he was zoned.

Great! Right?

They will be teaching him in a way that will put him ahead, not ahead of other kids in class, but ahead of the other schools that were B and C.

That's what I thought. Then I spoke with the teacher. She said the teachers are pressured to keep the A in each class, so if she has any problems with a student learning she has to be hard on them.

Xander has always had a speech impediment, and for a long time couldn't say L or R, he replaced them both with a W, so instead of saying "look" he said "wook".

He has since learned to say L's but the R's are still a problem.

Anyway, at that time, in Kindergarten, he couldn't say either letter, and that was giving him difficulty in reading. Every word with an R or L he would read as a W, he knew what the word WAS but because he couldn't say it properly, it was counted as wrong.

I knew something wasn't right when Xander started coming home and being sad. This had never happened before. Xander has always been such a happy child. So I started really trying to figure out what was wrong, and then at the end of that week, a bunch of his school work came home with him.

He had papers where he had to write words, like "RED" and he wrote "WED" because that's how he heard it, and his teacher, wrote a large red X on his paper with a huge sad face.

When I asked Xander about it he said she was always making him feel bad about his reading and spelling and he said to me "mom, i am a terrible reader!" and "My teacher told me I am not good at spelling or reading!" I tried telling him no, that SHE is wrong, but it was too late, she had already done the damage.

I called on Monday and had a meeting with her, to which she said I had no business asking about her teaching skills and that her way of teaching was her business and if I didn't like it I could send him to a different school.

So I did. I pulled him out that day and started a homeschool program.

For the next 2 years I have encouraged Xander every day, telling him he is a GREAT reader, but he still says "Mrs G told me I am not" I don't know if she realized how long this would last.

So, this year in the 2nd grade, his reading is picking up, he is getting better but I wanted a program that had good results, so I contacted the Easy Read System
to find out what it was all about.

They offered me a free month to try the program, and I immediately started Xander on it.

He LOVES the program, they teach by assigning each letter to a picture, so for example, A is for Ant, so when you read the word CAT, above it you see an ant on top of the A and it reminds you that it's an A.

After 2 weeks, Xander, by himself started reading a book in his room for the FIRST time.

The book was not on his grade level, but that's OK, it's a start.

He was SO proud the day he read it, I was in tears and so was he.
He said "Mom, Mrs G was wrong! I am a great reader!"

It made me SO happy to see that the Easy Read System had broken through what a teacher did to him, after 2 years.

If you have a child struggling with reading, please consider trying Easy Read. You can get a free trial here.

Skoy Cloths Review and Giveaway

What's a Skoy Cloth?

I said the same thing to myself a few weeks ago.
I have recently been trying to find ways to be more "green", and one thing on my list was to reduce my kitchen waste.

So, when I was doing some research, I came across Skoycloth.com

Picture of SKOY cloths in orange, blue and yellow

The company was created by 2 stay at home moms who wanted to reduce landfill waste.
They were shocked when they found out that paper towels contribute to 2.5 MILLION pounds of waste a year.

Skoy Cloths are
  • 100% Biodegradable!
  • Absorbent
  • Reuseable
  • European made
  • Clean
  • Fun!

1 Skoy Cloth is like buying 15 rolls of paper towels! That's alot of money, and waste!

When I received mine ( a 4 pack is $6.99!)
I decided to try them right away, I mean if I could start saving money and reduce waste immediately, why wouldn't I?

The first thing I noticed was how absorbent they were, I tested it on some juice that Riley spilled on my table, and the cloth easily soaked up about 6 oz of juice.

The next thing, is that when I rang out the Skoy Cloth in the sink, it rang out almost completely DRY! I mean, it felt damp, but was definitely ready for another use.

It was 100% dry within about an hour on my kitchen counter.

You can microwave your reuseable paper towel
for 15 seconds to keep it germ free.

I am definitely excited to be using these, knowing how much waste I am saving, and how inexpensive they are, here in Florida a roll of paper towels (the cheapest kind available at walmart) is .88 cents (15x.88=$13.22x4=)
That means for the same use, I would spend $52.00, compared to a 4 pack of Skoy cloths for $6.99.

The 4 pack I bought will easily last me a year!

You can purchase yours here.

One lucky reader is going to win their own 4 pack of Skoy Cloths.

Arctic Zero Review and Giveaway

What a great time of year to be talking about Arctic Zero.

I know I ate too much over the Holidays, and am starting to feel like I need to tone it down in 2013.

The new year is always a great time to start a new diet, and what easier way to treat yourself on your diet than with a super low calorie frozen dessert

I was fortunate enough to get to try the flavors shown here for my review.

  • Chocolate
  • Chocolate Peanut Butter
  • Coffee
  • Cookies and Cream
  • Mint Chocolate Cookie
  • Strawberry
  • Vanilla Maple
  • Pumpkin Spice (or seasonal)
Each pint, yes, PINT of Arctic Zero only has 150 calories!

My opinion of Arctic Zero is that they are good, they are not like ice cream, but at 150 calories you wouldn't expect it to be, it's kind of like a fudge bar, like ice milk, but for the 150 calories, I know I am going to be enjoying my pint!

I ate about 1/4 of a pint at a sitting and felt very filled and satisfied, and that was for nearly 40 calories.

My favorite flavor was the Coffee, it reminded me of a skinny latte but in an ice form.

Arcitc Zero is Fat free and Gluten free.

85 Calorie Bars

Also, now available are Arctic Zero Dessert Bars!
Each bar is only 85 calories!

You can purchase them at stores like Ralphs and King Soopers.

One thing I love about Arctic Zero is that they have tons of recipes on their website here.

One of my readers is going to win an Arctic Zero prize pack!

Giveaway is open to US residents, and winners must have not won Arctic Zero more than 3 times in the last 12 months to be eligible.

Rhythm SuperFoods Kale Chips Review

I have always been interested in a raw diet. It's a great way to be very healthy, but I don't know if I could do it. I would miss my mashed potatoes and french fries too much! But, I did find these Kale Chips in my research and it's good to know that there are other options besides everything being RAW.  Rhythm Kale Chips are a great source of vitamins and minerals!

One cup of kale contains 36 calories, 5 grams of fiber, and 15% of the daily requirement of calcium and vitamin B6 (pyridoxine), 40% of magnesium, 180% of vitamin A, 200% of vitamin C, and 1,020% of vitamin K.

They are also a good source of minerals copper, potassium, iron, manganese, and phosphorus.
Chips
Kale is a leafy green which is used in salads, or you can chop it up and add it soups, stews, stir-frys, egg dishes, or casseroles. Yum!

Rhythm SuperFoods Kale Chip come in 5 flavors kool ranch, bombay curry, zesty nacho, texas bbq, and mango habanero. Paige and I got to try the ranch and nacho, we both agreed that while we wouldn't replace potato chips with them, that they would be a great addition to any diet considering the fat/calorie content along with the health benifits.

If you're low on iron or potassium I would highly recommend this product, it will bring your levels back up in little to no time! Both Paige and I have struggled with anemia which makes us very tired and on edge, eating the Kale chips has helped me have more energy and less sleepy.

The bags of chips come in a well sealed ziplock-type bag that makes it easy to carry and snack on. It would be also great for an out door hike.

Rhythm Superfoods also make Sweet Potato Chips that are also RAW diet approved, I would love to try these!

The Kale chips are about $7 per 1oz bag, and the Sweet Potato chips are about $7.19.

Tutu Loopy Fairy Dress Review

What's after winter? Spring! What a cute way to start it off with your daughter dressed in the cutest spring fairy dress! The dress I received is a Blue Garden Fairy Dress. It's very cute. It comes with wings which can be placed on your daughter like a backpack they just slide on. I first placed the dress on Elizabeth and she loved it and ran around the yard and played with her wings like she could fly! It was a bit tight on her so I figured "hey why not try it on Sarah" which I loved it on Sarah. The dress on Elizabeth was at her knees and then tight in the chest, but on Sarah it was a little loose and was to her feet, very very cute! I can't wait until its a perfect fit on Sarah, which should be in the spring.

At Tutu Loopy on Esty the owner Kimberly makes all kinds of gorgeous tutus. There is the one I mentioned above, then she has a huge amount of winter/Holiday tutu's like the one above. Kimberly has made a tutu for every occasion, with more to come. Tutu Loopy has even a cute Tutu Wreath talk about something different!

Mommy Juice Wine Review

When I first heard the name Mommy Juice I was intrigued.

What is Mommy Juice? Is it like mommy milk?

Do I drink it? Does my child drink it?

After googling the site here http://mommyjuicewines.com/

http://0307ac6.netsolhost.com/mommyjuice/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/MommyJuiceWhite.png

I found out alot of information that I wanted to pass on to all my mommy readers.

Does this video remind you of anything?

Mommies need a break!

Mommy Juice Wines makes wine for moms.
I was lucky enough to be able to try both the Mommy Juice White wine and the Mommy Juice Red Wine.

I was really exhausted after Christmas. My husband didn't do much of the work, ok..he works 60 hours a week..so what? I work more than that between my own job, homeschooling and taking care of the house and kids 24/7, so on Christmas Day eve, I decided after the kids were in bed, to have my first glass of wine all by MYSELF in 10 years.

I am not a big drinker, that's why Mommy Juice Wines are perfect.
The white wine was very mild, it had a fruity flavor that I loved, and made me feel relaxed, but not so relaxed that I felt uncomfortable with children in the house..it just made the stress go away.

Next, I tried the red wine. I am not crazy about red wine, because normally they are very very dry, and really why anyone would want a dry drink beats me.

This red wine was not at all dry, tasted much like grape juice but with a kick, and I loved it.

I had about a half a glass of each, and love that i'll be able to take a "mommy break" a little more often now.

Right now you can purchase special holiday editions of Mommy Juice for just $10

You can follow Mommy Juice Wines on Facebook here, Twitter here, and Pinterest here.

The kids play with something similar to this at the science center, and I have seen cheaper versions of this at other retail stores, so I was a little sceptical.

When the boys received it, they couldn't wait to open to box!

Here is a video of them showing how much fun they had.

They played with it for 4 hours the day it came in the mail.

They built it, tore it down and rebuilt it again, I love that it kept them occupied.

This 103 piece set retails for $39.95 and can be purchased here.

This set was much better quality than the others I have seen in other stores, and with 103 pieces they had alot more fun with it.

Goody Good Stuff Candy Review

Spending most of my life as a semi-vegetarian (I don't eat red meat or pork) I have a hard time with gummy candy. I love it, but I can't bring myself to eat it knowing tht gelatin is made with some not-so-yummy cow parts.

That's until I found this cute little bag of VEGAN candy!

Not just vegetarian, but vegan too!

Strawberry Cream

Goody Good Stuff makes wonderful candy, all are gelatin, fat and dairy FREE!

They come in several varieties including
  • Strawberry Cream
  • Cheery Cherries
  • Tropical Fruit
  • Koala Gummy Bears
  • Cola Breeze
  • Summer Peaches
  • Sour Mix and Match
  • Sour Fruit Salad
My favorite was the Tropical Fruit, I loved the grapefruit flavor and it was so nice to give my kids something I know is not terrible for them.

Tropical Fruit

Currently in the US they are available at stores like
Giant
Stop and Shop
Dierbergs
Natural Harvest Food Market
Tops

Or you can purchase them online at Amazon.com here.
A 12 pack of bags is about $18.00 which is a great price, since it's only about $1.30 a bag which is very comparable to the non-vegan versions.

Sour Mix & Match

Casey, who is a HUGE candy eater, had this to say about Goody Good Stuff

Sour Tropical Fruit Mix, it was a mixture of bananas, grapefruit, lemon and pear I loved the grapefruit it was the best of the bunch. The taste of the gummies lasted a long time which is nice because most you eat and 5 minutes later the taste is gone, but these don't do that. The gummies also were shaped to know what kind you were getting. For the most part you could tell.. the only 2 that got mixed were lemon and grapefruit the color was close also.

The sour mix are small little bits like half a gummy worm size. They are a dual flavor which one have has a color other is white. I liked the sour apple it was really good and tasted like a fresh apple. I was surprised that they were not as strong a sour as I thought they would be they were very good.
